Nationals Part 2

Midlands Women are National Champions

Midlands Women take the National title, taking the trophy away from the South East for the first time since the tournament’s inception

Write up by Kat Jones:
Although the Midlands sides didn’t have a long preparation time ahead of the tournament, many of the girls chosen for the WO side had played together either at the Premiership Permit or Senior Euro’s competitions in Edinburgh earlier in the summer giving them a great grounding as a team. The Midlands WO got off to a shaky start with a 5-2 loss to the SE sharks, but they built on each successive performance, beating the NW blades and SW Saxons 7-1 and 8-1 respectively later in the day. The following day the girls faced the Wales national side, and despite a late resurgence by Wales, the Midlands won by 7-3. Moments of brilliance by Jade Grantham (Notts) with a show-and-go and quickies between Jen Lee (galaxy), Anna Goddard (Cambs) and Sadi Meakin (Notts) created some lovely scores but the defensive performance really kept Wales out of the game.

Midlands Mixed Team Runners Up at Nationals

A massive congratulations to Midlands mixed team who reached the finals in last weekends Nationals Tournament in St Ives.

Team:

Dean Hancock, Andrew Dyer, Callum Benson, Adam Boardman, Charlie Unsworth, Ben Dobson, Rhys Williams, Josh Grief

With only a few training sessions, Jo Howson coached the mixed team consisting of players from several clubs in the region. Good results in early games and a convincing win in the semis put them into the finals.

Spring League Finals Night

An exciting night of finals

First up were the Wolverines who beat Steppy Platypi 11 – 9.
A great win for Burys squad who have plenty of promising young players and come so far after joining us only a season ago.

Next up we had the final of the Bowl between Black Fox Academy and Mott Shots.
Congratulations to the Foxs for winning that game.

Also at the same time were our top teams, Superheros and Honey Badgers, battling out for the Cup. At the end of the first half Badgers had edged just one touch down lead. An eventful second half had the teams locked level when the hooter sounded. It took a drop off to decide the eventual winner whom was Honey Badgers.
Badgers also collected the trophy for the Superleague too.

Thank you to everyone involved and lets get on with the Summer League.
